Personal dispute leads to home invasion, shots fired in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Police in Carbondale say an ongoing personal dispute resulted in a break-in, battery and shooting at home on the city’s northwest side.

Police were notified at about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday when 31-year-old Dakota Mitchell and at least one other person forced their way into a home in the 1000 block of West Gher Street and beat up the person inside.  The victim fought back, firing several shots, scaring off the attackers.

Dakota Mitchell was caught a short time later and arrested on charges including home invasion, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct.  The second suspect is still at large.
