Marion announces preparation of shot clock

The Marion Wildcats are one of the first schools in the Southern Illinois region to implement a shot clock.

Thursday night, the school’s Facebook page shared a picture and stated that Daktronics, a company that specializes in scoreboards, video boards, etc. had been to Cuss Wilson Gymnasium earlier in the day to provide upgrades for Marion’s scoreboard, including preparing shot clocks for the gym.

The IHSA approved the use of shot clocks last summer for regular season tournaments and shootouts.  Schools had to receive approval from the IHSA to use the shot clock in tournaments.

Regular season games will now be able to use the shot clock as well, with IHSA approval.

At the high school level, shot clocks are set for 35 seconds.

Southern Illinois saw a few games utilize the shot clock in the 2022-23 season at Benton for their Midwinter Tournament.
