Extreme heat impacting power grid

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) – Until we get a slight break from the heat, Ameren is asking customers to conserve power as much as possible.

MISO, a regional organization that manages power generation and transmission in 15 midwestern states, has declared a hot weather alert, capacity advisory and conservative operations through Thursday at 10:00 p.m.

Blackouts or brownouts are not being forecasted at this time.

To save electricity, Ameren is offering a few basic tips like keeping the curtains and blinds closed, supplementing air conditioning with the use of fans, cleaning your A/C’s filter, and reducing hot water use.
