Sharp ruled mentally fit to stand trial for reckless homicide

MT. VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – Mitchell Sharp, the Mt. Vernon man charged with reckless homicide after an accident earlier this year that killed a pedestrian, has been found mentally fit to stand trial.

Prosecutors allege that on the night of July 30, Courtney Estes, 18, was killed when she was run over by Sharp while walking on a sidewalk along Main Street in Mt. Vernon.  The 30-year-old Sharp also hit a home and rolled the vehicle. After the crash, he ran from the scene with no clothes on.

Mitchell Sharp will go on trial in January.
