SIU Women’s Basketball picked to finish 8th in MVC Preseason Poll

MOLINE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University women’s basketball team was voted to finish eighth in the 2023-24 Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll after receiving a total of 295 points.

The poll was voted on by the league’s coaches, sports information directors, and the media. Northern Iowa was picked to finish first for the first time in its program history, followed by Drake.

The Salukis are led by head coach Kelly Bond-White, who is in her second year with the program.

SIU returns starters Quierra LoveShemera Williams, and Laniah Randle to the 2023-24 lineup. Love, who enters the year as a senior, was named to the MVC All-Defensive team in 2022-23.

Southern welcomes four newcomers, with three of them being freshmen and one, Se’Quoia Allmond, being a transfer. The three freshmen are Maddy SaraccoTkiyah Nelson, and Angela Samuel.

The Salukis will open the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. against Southeast Missouri State at the Banterra Center in Carbondale, Ill.
