Laniah Randle named MVC Player of the Week

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Fresh off of a career-high 30-point performance on Saturday, Laniah Randle has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week.

In a week where the Salukis earned two victories in three games at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico, Randle was dominant, averaging 24.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals-per-game.

The big week was highlighted by a 30-point, 11-rebound double-double on Saturday against West Virginia. Randle also tied a career-high in steals (five) in the game.

Randle scored at least 22 points in all three games of the tournament, which led to her season average jumping from 11.3 points-per-game to 17.0, which is now tied for third in the Valley. The junior’s previous season-high in points was 17, which she scored against North Texas at home on Nov. 19.

Along with the high scoring numbers, Randle was also efficient from the field throughout the week. The Wichita, Kan., native posted a combined field-goal percentage of 49%, and shot at least 50% in two of the three games.

The 25 total rebounds collected by Randle saw her season average rise to 8.9, which leads the MVC and is tied for 55th in the nation.

Southern Illinois will be back at home for its next game on Dec. 6 when it hosts SIUE at 11 a.m.
