MARION, Ill. (WJPF) – A good Samaritan making the call to 9-1-1 and quick action by the Marion Fire Department likely prevented a fire on Marion’s tower square Monday from spreading to other buildings.
The Marion Fire Department says someone called 9-1-1 around 5:20 a.m. reporting downed power lines arcing on the side of the Jones Building, the current home of The Little Nashville Café and the James Arthur Design Company.
Officials say the fire started in the basement and produced heavy smoke. The basement sustained major damage but the upper two floors are salvageable. No injuries were reported.
