CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University women’s basketball head coach Kelly Bond-White has announced the hiring of Greg Brown to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.
“I’m fired up to have Greg join our staff,” Bond-White said. “A forever student of the game and people, Greg has coached on every level and been impactful everywhere he has been. Having worked alongside me before, he understands the expectations and standards we set for our student athletes. Our staff and young ladies will benefit from working and learning alongside one of the most consistent teachers of our game. A Kentucky native with family and former head coaching ties in Nashville, the Missouri Valley is a great fit for him.”
Brown brings in 16 years of Division I coaching experience to Carbondale, with recent stops including the University of Central Florida and Texas A&M.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to come work for Coach Bond and SIU,” Brown said. “I’ve known Coach for a long time and worked with her at A&M. I’m excited about the process here and where the program is going, and am excited to be a part of it.”
Brown comes to SIU after spending one season as the women’s basketball associate head coach at Central Florida in 2022-23. This was his second tenure at UCF, as he was the associate head coach there for five seasons from 2007 to 2012.
Prior to UCF, Brown was a women’s basketball assistant coach at Texas A&M for one season.
From 2012 to 2019, Brown was the head women’s basketball coach at his alma mater, Lipscomb, in Nashville, Tenn., for seven years. Before this stretch, he spent two seasons as an assistant under Hall of Fame coach Pat Summitt.
At Lipscomb, the program had its first-ever Atlantic Sun Player of the Year under Brown, and also had three ASUN All-Conference players, five ASUN All-Freshman accolades, and eight ASUN Academic All-Conference selections.
Before his first tenure at UCF from 2007 to 2012, Brown served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Tennessee for two years from 2002 to 2004.
Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History at Lipscomb in 1993.
Brown and his wife, Teresa, have two sons, Cole and Carter.
