ISP squad car involved in move-over crash

WILL COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – Another state police squad car has been hit by a driver that didn’t slow down or move over.

It happened Monday night along Interstate 55 in Will County.

Illinois State Police say the squad car was parked on the right shoulder, with its emergency flashing, when it was rear-ended by a sedan. The trooper was inside of the squad car at the time of the crash and received non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the sedan was not hurt, but they were issued three traffic citations.

Monday’s accident represented the fifteenth state police squad car to be involved in a move over crash in 2024. Seven troopers have been injured in those crashes.

A person who violates the move over law faces a fine of no less than $250 for a first offense. If the violation results in an injury to another person, your driver’s license will be suspended for at least six months.
