“Snake Road” reopens to motor vehicle traffic

UNION COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – Snake Road, part of the Shawnee National Forest in Union County, is open to vehicle traffic again.

The road is restricted to pedestrian use twice each year to allow reptiles and amphibians to safely migrate.

While Snake Road is now open to cars and trucks, the forest service warns that recent rain has softened the road bed and additional rain may cause the road to flood.
