SIU Women’s Basketball inks freshman Isabella Palmqvist from Denmark

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University women’s basketball head coach Kelly Bond-White has announced the signing of Isabella Palmqvist.

“I’m especially excited for Isabella because she is the last player to sign in our 2024 recruiting class,” Bond-White said. “Our goal was to bring in versatile athletes that could impact the game in a variety of ways. Isabella does just that. She is a triple threat on the offensive end that can stretch the defense, attack off the bounce, and, at her size, is an efficient passer. Defensively, we still place a large onus on wanting deflections and steals. However, we wanted to get bigger and longer at the guard and forward positions. We’ve done that with Isabella and this class.”

Palmqvist is a 6-foot, freshman forward from Copenhagen, Denmark. The incoming freshman is versatile and can play multiple positions, and is described as a player who can get downhill, has a strong feel for the game, and is both long and explosive.

An efficient shooter on the offensive end, Palmqvist is also capable of guarding multiple positions on the defensive end.

In Denmark, Palmqvist played for her country’s national team, and she was just recently selected as a member of the U20 national team, all while competing at the high school level as well. The forward won the Danish Championship and the Danish Cup Championship in her division. Palmqvist has also won a Nordic Championship, two other Danish Championships, one other Danish Cup Championship, and a FIBA European Championship.

Arriving this summer at Southern Illinois, Palmqvist intends on studying psychology.
