The Herrin Tigers announced Tuesday night the hiring of Hunter Shockley as their next head football coach.
Shockley has coached at Murphysboro High School and Hamilton County High School. At Murphysboro he worked with the offensive line. At Hamilton County, Shockley was the junior varsity coach.
Shockley also has coaching experience as an assistant track and field coach.
In a statement made by the school district, Shockley “comes recommended for his interaction with students and for his effectiveness in creating a game plan for the athletes both on and off the field.”
Shockley replaces Taylor Perry, who resigned in April. Perry led the Tigers to a 3-6 record in the 2023-24 season and a 8-19 record in three seasons.
