Murphysboro man sentenced for attempted first degree murder

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WJPF) – A Murphysboro man has been sentenced for attempted first-degree murder.

37 year old Edward Weaver was sentenced to 31 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Weaver was found guilty of multiple counts including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm last September.

In July of 2020, Weaver waited for a Murphysboro man to exit his apartment, he then fired multiple shots at him while sitting in his vehicle. The victim was transported to the hospital and Weaver was arrested in August of 2020.

Weaver will serve 85% of his sentence followed by up to three years of mandatory supervised release.
