Six Saluki swimmers to compete internationally

CARBONDALE, Ill.– The Southern Illinois Swimming and Diving team will have six returning swimmers and one incoming competing internationally this week.

Celia Pulido and Alex Santiago will both be competing for a chance to qualify for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Pulido and Santiago were the first swimmers to qualify and compete at both NCAA Men’s and Women’s Championships for the Salukis since 1992.

Santiago will compete at the Mel Zajac Invitational in Vancouver, Canada June 21-23. He will be competing to qualify for the Puerto Rican Olympic Team.

Pulido will be joined by teammates Karen Rodriguez and Joshua Aceves competing for Team Mexico at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Monterrey, Mexico June 17-22. Bea Padron will also be competing for Costa Rica.

Tomas Peciar will also be representing the Salukis internationally, he is set to compete for Slovakia at the European Aquatic Championships in Belgrade, Serbia June 17-23.

Incoming Saluki Nikola Trajanovski will also be competing at the European Aquatic Championship for Macedonia.
