CARBONDALE, Ill. – Sophia Schlicklin and Marta Forne of the Southern Illinois University women’s soccer team have both earned weekly honors from the Missouri-Valley Conference, as announced on Tuesday by the league.
Sophia Schlicklin was named the Freshman of the Week and Marta Forne was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Schlicklin had two goals and an assist last week for the Salukis. Schlicklin scored her first goal for SIU on Thursday, Aug. 22, against Southeast Missouri State. Schlicklin’s goal was the only goal throughout the game, giving SIU the 1-0 victory over the Redhawks. On Sunday, Aug. 25, against IU-Indianapolis, Schlicklin recorded her first assist and second goal of the season. The Salukis defeated the Jaguars, 3-1.
Forne has started in all four games for SIU. Last week against Southeast Missouri State and IU-Indianapolis Forne, the defender recorded three shots, two shots-on-goal and one goal. Forne’s goal was against IU-Indianapolis on Sunday.
