SIU announces Angelina Ramos as new head coach of XC

CARBONDALE, Ill.- The Southern Illinois Cross Country program announced the hiring of Angelina Ramos as the new head coach, beginning in the 2024 season.

Director of Track and Field Richard Jones issued the following statement: “I’d like to thank coach Biekert for his time and service here at Saluki nation,” Jones said. “The distance program has continued to show signs of success under his leadership, and I would expect the same if not more success under the direction of new head coach Angelina Ramos.”

Ramos is a native of Tom River, N.J. and brings a wealth of experience at the collegiate level, starting at Metropolitan State (2012-2014), Saginaw Valley State (2015-2018), UNLV (2018-2021), and most recently Ball State (2021-2024).

Ramos competed as a student athlete at Florida State university. She competed in track and field, running the 800m and 1500m events, along cross country.

“I am very excited to join a program that offers a strong veteran presence of runners that are willing to take the younger athletes under their wings,” Ramos said. “I am looking forward to helping guide and build a culture around respect, support, effort, grit, and most importantly performance.”

Ramos joins the Salukis shortly after a strong finish at the SEMO RedHawks XC invite and will look to carry that momentum into the next event on September 20th at the Bradley Intercollegiate.
