ANNA, Ill. (WJPF) – Police in Anna are warning about a scam targeting businesses.
According to the Anna Police Department, a scammer called the KFC/Taco Bell on Friday. By impersonating the manager, the scammer convinced an employee to take the cash out of the restaurant’s safe and wire that money, via Western Union, to an account in Mexico.
Police say a similar incident happened at the Anna Kroger in late December. In that case, the scammers didn’t get any money, but did convince an employee to damage the safe in an attempt to get the cash out.
Business owners are encouraged to review with their employees proper cash handling procedures.
