Two teens arrested in armed robbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Two teenagers have been arrested. One more is wanted by police for questioning. It’s in connection to a pair of armed robberies that happened over the weekend in Carbondale.

Police say the victim and multiple suspects are under 18 years of age and therefore names will not be released.

Late Saturday afternoon, in the 400 block of South Graham Street, a juvenile was robbed at gunpoint by a known acquaintance. When it was over and the victim was driving away, the robber fired a shot.

Police say the victim and two other teens then drove to the 300 block of East College Street where, again, the teen was robbed at gunpoint by a known acquaintance.

After the second armed robbery, the victim drove to the police station to report the crimes. Not long after that, the parents of two suspects brought the teens to the police. A 15-year-old from Carbondale and the 16-year-old from Carterville were charged with armed robbery, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon. They have both been detained in a juvenile detention facility pending a court hearing.
